Mentors

Since I was in third grade, I have wanted to become a pediatrician. I love being around small children and would love nothing more than to save lives. I want to be a pediatrician because I can save lives that have yet to be lived. My mother is the Director of Nursing at our hospital in Audubon, and being in the medical field would be so rewarding. It will require a lot of schooling but it will totally be worth it in the end.
Throughout high school, I got many great contacts. I had a couple of great teachers that wrote terrific letters of recommendation for me. As far as college goes, I believe I need to do a better job at getting to know my professors. I have met with a couple of mine when I have had questions, but otherwise I don't know any of them on a personal level. I have met a lot of new people through my sorority and what not. I really need to get some contacts that will help me down the road.
I want to try and get an internship set up for next summer. I want to volunteer at a hospital or shadow a pediatrician someday. I would really get a lot of use out of that and would enjoy every bit of it. I want to attend any medical school in the United States that will take me! I would prefer to go to the University of Iowa, Des Moines University, or the University of North Carolina. Internships and letters of recommendation are so important in getting into medical school. If I could see twelve years into the future, I hope I would see me working in a hospital saving lives :)

Club/Organization

I joined the sorority, Gamma Phi Beta. It is the greatest thing in the world. We are able to get involved in so many different activities. There are many advantages to becoming a member of the Greek community. Being in a sorority is an honor.
The list is endless...I have met people already that will be life long friends. I have participated in Yell Like Hell...that's not something anybody can do any day. We have many different social events where we get the chance to meet new people or get to know our sorority sisters better!
Academically, we have study hours that all freshmen have to do each week. We start out with four study hours, and then it depends on your GPA how many you have after that. Academics are very important to our sorority.
Going through Rush was a crazy process. For those of you that don't know what Rush is - it's the week before school starts that all girls interested in becoming a member of a sorority get the opportunity to go to each of the houses and eliminate some day by day. You have to like the sorority and they have to like you back. I will say it was a bit of a long process, but as I look back on it, it was totally worth it.
Gamma Phi Beta has made my college experience so much greater. I love being there and hanging out with the girls in my house. I will live there next year and am really looking forward to that. I already have many great G PHI memories, and I'm sure there will be many more to come! :)

My Best

I always feel I am at my best on the tennis court. It always feels like I am at home. I am very comfortable, and it is a place where I can relieve all my stresses! Tennis is a very fun sport for me and I always love to play - rain or shine.
I have played tennis all throughout my life. I started when I was in fourth grade. My coaches could already tell I had some great potential at that age. I played whenever I got the chance - even when I was little. I still remember when I got my first tennis racket. I was so excited!!
I was on the high school tennis team all four years. My junior and senior year I was number one. My coaches were so great, they taught me everything I know about the game. The days we had matches were my favorite. I couldn't wait until the school day was over so I would get a chance to compete with other teams on the court. I always love a good challenge, and playing tennis was my favorite challenge of all.
The thing I miss the most about high school is playing tennis. I had many great friends that I played with, and we have so many great memories. I now take a class at Iowa State for tennis. I am still learning and still getting better. Tennis is a sport I will be able to play all my life, and I know I will enjoy every minute of it!
